Memory Lane

This morning I was at the 7:30am mass at Holy Redeemer (since I spent the night in Webster with my friend’s dog).    I always liked that mass, maybe because I am a morning person and maybe because there’s no music I can have quiet time or sing in my head the songs that come to me.  This morning the song that came to me was Center of My Life (    —   Then my memory went to a mass at Our Lady of the Snows in the 80’s –  it was one of those resurrection God’s moments – “O Lordyou are the center of my life: I will always praise youI will always serve youI will always keep you in my sight.” – a moment of taking the words to heart.   Holy Redeemer is a great memory of all my Cursillo friends, and in Cursillo “God moments or moments of awareness of God’s presence” was part of the Cursillo method or spirituality.

Another song that came to mind is one I made up in my 20’s for my prayer time.

“Lord tell me what to do, Lord I want to follow you, I know it will cost me everything but this I am willing to do, I want to follow you”

Memory in the Eucharistic prayer is not just remembering, it makes present the Paschal Mysteries.   A sad memory and happy memory all in one.  Sad that Jesus had to die but grateful for His mercy on this Divine Mercy Sunday!

I believe much of my own inner healing and my ability to forgive quickly comes from that memory of what Jesus did for all.  And receiving His body and blood in the Eucharist gives me the grace.   I can take any memory, even a painful one and see that Jesus was there with me all the time.

The Divine Mercy message is simple (

A – Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world.

B – Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us.

C – Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive.

As always, need to reflect more —  Am I keeping God in my sight, am I praising Him, am I serving Him?      Have I asked for Mercy lately,  who do I need to show mercy to, do I completely trust in Jesus?
